Androids Are Multiplying More Quickly Than People

Friday, January 20th, 2012

In spite of gloomy forecasts of fantasts, our planet is not likely to be conquered by computers. However, the mobile platform Android is already making confident steps towards the world domination. In his speech at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 Robert Kyncl, the head of YouTube portal, said that the number of daily activations of Android devices already exceeds the number of daily newborns. Kyncl stated that if the situation will develop like that, the producers will have to start searching new clients on other planets.many-androids

Mobile devices had no problems in becoming a leader. According to the statistics, the birth rate has been going down for the last three decades while the volumes of portable device production are constantly growing. The only restraining factor for the manufacturers is the level of demand for Android smartphones.

The Apple Corporation doesn’t share the similar statistics but one can presuppose that the circulations of Android devices released in great numbers from Samsung to Motorola exceeded the official figure of 250 mln iOS activations (including iPod, iPhone and iPads).

At the same time, mobile development specialists try to keep up with these tendencies and create more and more mobile devices for all platforms.

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

The specialists from the analytical company Berg Insight have come to a conclusion that by the year 2015 the number of downloaded applications for mobile devices will have reached 98 bln. At present, the leader of the market is Apple – most mobile applications have been developed for this platform. Berg Insight considers that till 2015 Apple will keep his leading position. Android mobile platform from Google is on the second place and in the nearest 4 years it will keep this position. By the year 2015 the third place will be taken by Windows Phone.

Nowadays mobile apps developers create not many applications for this platform – about 30,000. At the Android Market there are now about 280,000 apps and in the Apple App Store – more than 500,000 apps. Last year the turnover of the Apple App Store exceeded $1.7 bln and in the Android Market the profit was $102 mln. It counted for 83% and 1.3% from the total market correspondingly.

Berg Insight noted that the growth of application downloads will not be proportional to the growth of profit. Since the biggest part of mobile development is free, the monetization of such programs will be limited to content selling immediately in the application environment or in advertising.

Apple Changed Payment Rules in App Store

Saturday, June 18th, 2011

mobile_payment1Apple has changed the policy in the App Store which before required from Mobile Android Phone Developers to use their own mechanisms for carrying out internal payments.

Now in case of placing into the store a paid application, software developers have to transfer 30% from each purchase via the App Store in favor of Apple and then can legally use their own mechanisms of accepting payments which can be installed into the application. However, they can use the methods suggested by Apple, but in this case Apple will charge another 30% from each payment.

Earlier many mobile development companies didn’t agree with the requirement on the obligatory 100% payments via Apple. This requirement keeps from placing in the App Store such apps as the client solution of the Financial Times, the musical service Rhapsody and others. Moreover, there were developers who think that sharing the profit from selling or re-selling the content for already downloaded application is unfair.

At the same time others welcomed this innovation that can lead to the further simplification and excluding from sales unstable applications.

The opinions of mobile developers have also divided: on one hand, they got a good channel for distributing their applications but on the other hand they got under the censorship of Apple. Moreover, the Mac Store rules don’t allow placing erotic applications but, which is new, trial and demo versions of applications are also forbidden in the store. While selling applications via the Mac App Store, mobile developerswill pay a 30% commission fee.

Mobile apps with the maximum of functionality – new approach to mobile software development

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Modern interfaces designed for mobile phones lacks integrity. Specialists form the EleganceIT company decided to reconsider existing approach to mobile soft development and invented some new features. They just took a sheet of paper and drew a table, including all the most popular mobile functions in horizontal and vertical lines, one by one. So cell at their intersections showed the possible way of integration:

1. Calendar + Phonebook = birthday reminder

2. Photo + Phonebook = to mark in the photo your friends from phonebook

3. Calendar + Photos = sort photos according to dates and events from your calendar

4. Photo + GPS = locate photos, taken by phone user

5. GPS + Phonebook = to mark addresses (home, work, etc.) assigned to people from your phonebook

6. SMS + Phonebook = to show SMS messages as a chat with particular contact (as it was done in Gmail)

7. GPS + Call log = to show where the call took a place (It is doubtful, but it may be helpful for those who need an alibi :) )

8. Notes + Phonebook = mobile CRM, to leave any notes about people from your phonebook (their wishes, debt, etc.)

9. Contact + Alarms = call reminder, appointment reminder, etc.

10. Alarms + GPS = to call back to particular person when the phone is at an appointed place

11. Internet + Phonebook = friendfeeds, rss from their web pages

12. Internet + Music = something like last.fm

13. Bluetooth + Phonebook = associate contact and bluetooth address, keep a transmissions history (or even better keep one chat with sms, call logs, rss, etc.)

14. SMS + GPS = send SMS on arrival an appointed place (Mom: Son, send me sms on arrival – it will be so easy then :) )

EleganceIT believe that users definitely appreciate such features, so mobile development companies should work in this direction.

As we can see, iPhone has got really serious competitor. The popularity of GooglePhones grows every day. More and more software development companies start new services – Android application development. The reason is obvious, Google Android is open platform made on Linux. It guarantees free development of applications. Developers have all rights to create and upload their Android application wherever they want. Of course, there exist centralized resource Android Market, but Google unlike Apple is not taking part of profits from selling application. Only developers and mobile operators get all the money from application downloads. This fact confirms that GooglePhone is becoming more attractive for leading mobile application developers.
