DownloadMusic_Sept. 2008It’s impossible not to notice the present day tendency of replacing traditional information media with digital content. Sales of pieces of music were the first to show that users prefer downloading files from the Internet rather than buying CDs as it was before. Recently the famous American online shop Amazon announced the dominance of e-books over paper ones in the current volume of sales. The services in downloading games are also popular – at present the buyers of display cards get a coupon for downloading the game from the net instead of the disk with the game.

According to NPD Group, in the first half of this year the number of downloaded games exceeded the volume of games sold through offline shops. During this period about 8.2 mln boxes of games were sold in standard shops and about 11.2 mln ones through online services. Of course, we are talking about legal purchases of games on the territory of the USA. Thus, game developers will produce more and more games and will sell them online. Moreover, the same situation is similar with mobile game development.

The product has been tested for one year in schools and now is available only through orders.

Android is an open platform for mobile application developers (it doesn’t require the permission from the company but soon app inventor(according to the latest tendencies) it is likely to become a resort for many specialized applications created by amateurs. Thus, the general number of mobile applications in the App Market will increase considerably.

Unfortunately, such increase in numbers is done to the detriment of quality. We’ll see hundreds of new Android applications made according to some pattern and, therefore, practically useless. But if App Inventor is so simple in use that even pupils can understand it, maybe, someone from them will want to become a programmer and start developing applications for Android and not for other competitors.

paid applicationThe Internet store Google Android Market where users can download for free or buy applications for their Android smartphones steadily expands the volume of available soft, however, the company is facing tough critics from the side of users and mobile application developers because the paid options of the Android Market are limited.

The analytics say that in comparison with the App Store, in the Android Market only some percent of applications are paid and it scares serious mobile application development companies and developers who got used to getting financial reward from their software. The main problem in realizing the commercial strategy in the Android Market is the fact that only 13 countries can get paid applications from the store: USA, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain and Switzerland.

The company promises to expand the geography of paid applications availability but the details are not announced. The reliable sources from Google inform that by the end of the year paid applications at the Android Market will work at the other 46 markets.
