BlackBerry OS 6.0: What do we know about it?

Friday, April 30th, 2010

BlackBerry-OS-6We have prepared some information for BlackBerry application developers. We hope that it will be interesting for them to read about the upcoming OS version from Blackberry.

Research In Motion wanted to stimulate our interest at the Wireless Enterprise Symposium (WES), that took place this week in Orlando, Florida. It’s a pity that the company, as usual, kept its mouth shut last week when all BlackBerry mobile apps developers asked about new photos and details in the Net about this very OS.

So, RIM demonstrated the next generation of its OS at this symposium, which begun on Thursday. RIM has confirmed nothing of the rumors about the BlackBerry OS, in addition, it announced its debut at the next quarter.

So, we will expect better integration with sensory devices, trackpad and QWERTY-keyboard support, especially for devices that have been already released, such as Storm, Bold, and the Tour. Unlike Microsoft, which has no plans to adapt the coming OS Windows Phone 7 Series for the previous phones, RIM will make the back-compatible OS. In other words, the updates will be available for the previous smartphone models.

Android 2.2 is coming. What’s new for apps developers?

Monday, April 26th, 2010

android-froyoThe most smartphones have not even updated their OS to the Android 2.1 version, but it does not prevent Google from developing and debugging of the next version of its platform. So, mobile apps developers for Android will meet Froyo (it’s a code name of the 2.2 version). According to rumors, Nexus One will get this renewed OS very soon. The release has not yet announced, so there is no precise information about the updates. But here are some assumptions about future features of Android 2.2:
• JIT compiler,
• additional free RAM,
• OpenGL ES 2.0,
• Flash 10.1 support,
• corrected problem with the “crazy screen” (multitouch),
• activation of the color trackball,
• FM-radio.

Information about the JIT compiler can be considered as a confirmed fact, we can only wait for the details from Google, which has already provided a compiler for Android application developers to test their programs.
More additional free RAM will be available thanks to new kernels that Linux uses in Froyo. It was done in CyanogenMod previously, and it gives grounds to assume that such a feature will be used in Froyo.
We sure that you have already read about OpenGL in Android. So Android mobile application developers is still waiting for the full access to the OpenGL ES 2.0 libraries.

When can we expect the new version of Android? So, we hope that Google I/O 2010 will uncover this secret.

iPhone_OS_4_iPad_apps_developments

Apple announced a new version of mobile operating system iPhone OS 4 almost two weeks ago. Mobile apps developers state that iPhone OS 4 has about a hundred innovations. Let us consider the most significant of them.
First, we should mention long-awaited multitasking. However, it can be used only in iPad, iPod Touch, and the third-generation iPhone 3GS. Of course, companies that specialize in iPad apps developments will appreciate this innovation. But hardware of old devices, according to Steve Jobs’ words, cannot provide this feature.

In addition, the new OS 4 have introduced several additional services: a game center, iAd and iBooks. Game Center is a social network that will unite all who like multiplayer games. The next in the list is iAd, it’s an advertising service, through which developers of free mobile software will be able to receive additional benefits displaying advertisements.

Moreover, we would like to mention such features as possibility to create folders in user menu, to set custom wallpaper as background and additional features for text formatting.

iPhone OS 4 will be available for download this summer, when the next generation iPhone is released.

Good assistant at meetings

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

My work requires lots of meetings and talks with clients. Very often I have to present the information that is very changeable. It can vary even two times a day. Till recently it was a real problem because I don’t like using papers during my presentations but I had to.

But our manager made me try spy earpiece – a small device that I have to put into my ear and get all the necessary information. I was a bit skeptical about it at first. I though that it would be inconvenient and people would notice something in my ear. But I was pleasantly surprised with this device – completely invisible, very convenient and entirely reliable.

Now between my meetings I can have a rest and don’t worry about figures. My partner will tell me the latest figures. By the way, my clients are surprised how I can know and remember all the figures. I’m not going to reveal my secret!
